Virtual phone numbers for your business

A virtual phone number is a real phone number that is not tied to a SIM card or a copper line. Customers dial it like any other number, and Youvoip rings it wherever your team is signed in. Every Youvoip user gets one local or toll-free virtual number, with the auto attendant, call routing, voicemail to email and recording already switched on for it.

How a virtual business phone number works

The number lives in your Youvoip account, not in a handset. When someone calls, the account decides what happens next: play a greeting, open a menu, ring one person or a whole team, forward to a mobile or take a voicemail. When you call out from the app, the virtual number appears as caller ID, so your personal mobile number stays private. If the employee who used the number leaves, you reassign it to someone else and customers keep calling the same digits.

  • Works on the iOS and Android apps, the Windows and macOS apps, the web softphone and SIP desk phones.
  • Rings several devices at once, or in order.
  • Keeps call history, voicemail and recordings with the number, not the person.

Local, toll-free and international virtual numbers

Pick a local number with the area code of the city where your customers are, or a toll-free number that any caller in the US and Canada can dial at no cost to them. Each plan includes one number per user, and Business adds 5 shared numbers for departments or campaigns, Ultimate adds 20. Ultimate also offers international numbers in 40+ countries for teams that serve customers abroad. More on toll-free on our toll free numbers page.

Numbers you already own

If customers already know your number, you do not need a new one. Number porting moves it to Youvoip at no charge and turns it into a virtual number with every feature attached. Our guide on how to port a business phone number explains the paperwork.

What businesses use a virtual number for

A virtual number is useful anywhere a business needs a line that is not tied to one device or one person.

  • A main number for a company without an office phone.
  • A local presence in a city where you have customers but no office.
  • A dedicated line per campaign or per location, so reports show which one rings.
  • A second line for owners who want business calls separate from personal ones, covered on business phone number.
  • A line for remote staff who answer from home and on the road.

What comes with each virtual number

Every number can open a menu from the auto attendant, follow rules from the call routing software, send messages through voicemail to email and be recorded with call recording software. On Business and above, the same number sends and receives texts with the text messaging service for business. Staff answer in the business phone app.

Virtual phone number cost

From $19 per user per month, billed yearly, with a number included for each user and unlimited calling in the US and Canada. See the plans on VoIP pricing.

Virtual phone number questions

Is a virtual phone number a real number?

Yes. It is a standard phone number that anyone can call. It simply rings in apps and on desk phones instead of a fixed line.

Can I choose the area code?

Yes. When you add a local number you search by area code and pick from the available numbers.

Can I move my virtual number to another provider later?

Yes. The number belongs to your business. You can port it out, and there is no contract.

Can a virtual number receive text messages?

Yes, on Business and Ultimate. Company numbers send and receive SMS and MMS in the apps.
